Dyslexia in the time of Covid 19

I’ll admit it. I panicked. When the “stay at home” order was announced, all I could think of was “How am I going to reach my students when they can’t come to my office?” and “What if they back slide and forget a lot of what they’ve learned?” Then I had to take a deep breath and tell myself my go-to mantra when I feel anxiety over a situation: I will figure it out. I don’t know how this will look, but I will figure it out. Long story short, I started working with my students on Skype and it’s been wonderful. I have found new ways to engage them and keep the attention of the squirmy students. It’s a great feeling to know that I can do my work virtually and still make a huge positive impact in the lives of my students. They will go back to school in the fall with stronger reading skills, higher self esteem and confidence. It’s a beautiful thing to know I helped them get there.
