One of the Easiest Things You Can Do...

Studies have shown again and again how important it is to read to your child at an early age. It is even thought that doing so often enough could decrease some of the symptoms of dyslexia. This article highlights a study that shows us the positive effects of sitting down and reading to and with your child. It’s worth a perusal.

I recommend reading to your child, even starting before they are verbal. Once they’re old enough and can do it, I suggest having them point to the words as you read them. They will get more out of this than you know. One of the first literacy skills children acquire is being able to differentiate words in a sentence. By reading to them so early, you’re giving them a head start! In addition, the bonding experience and showing them that they are valuable and worthy of your undivided attention does amazing things for their sense of self worth. So, take the time to sit down with your little one with a book. The payoff is priceless.
